Ingrown Nails

Ingrown nails (onychocryptosis) are common and most often affect the big toe. The most common cause is improper trimming of the nails or tight-fitting footwear. Ingrown nails can irritate the skin and can get infected.

Ingrown nail treatment procedure

  • Local anesthesia is injected before the procedure
  • Partial nail avulsion / Wedge resection is done where a portion of the toenail is removed to prevent it from digging into the skin
  • Sometimes the whole toe nail is removed
  • Laser matricetomy where part of the nail bed is removed in addition to part of the nail
